Our Mid Wales recording studio is live and ready to roll!

It's fair to say it's been a busy few weeks at PixelHaze Academy.

Our Mid Wales recording studio.

After three to four weeks of blood sweat and tears over the Christmas period, our new recording studio based on our farm in the middle of nowhere (Mid Wales), is live and ready for a wealth of video and audio content.

The good news is that it is possible to create a considerably better recording environment without spending a small fortune. Ok, we're not re-creating the BBC studio here, but the combination of mid-range lighting equipment audio recording hardware and software and a bit of creative editing can ensure we can produce professional-quality video and audio without needing to purchase or hire a purpose-built location. Almost all of the furniture and equipment was either previously in our possession or has been purchased second-hand via Facebook market page, even the doors were installed second-hand and refurbished! it also helps that due to the remote location there was very little background noise that we need to block out. Ideal. The main source of background noise is the overly excited dogs on the farm, however, a robust solution was found in the source of a piece of off-cut Kingspan insulated board and a few old cushions. Not the prettiest but doing the trick for now.

Above: For our first day of filming, we welcomed Luke Davies and Steve Frost to try out the new setup to record the first-ever Back To Roots podcast. This will be an exciting new series for healthcare professionals (launching next week) and we are delighted to welcome them to the Academy for the remainder of the series. There is a little fine-tuning to get everything spot-on, but we are really happy with the initial results.

The main reason for the recording studio was one out of necessity - we will be creating for more video content this year and need an efficient base to operate from. We had also undertaken this project as an experiment to see what can be achieved without spending a great deal. We are going to create a YouTube mini-series to show and how we've managed to achieve this result (that we are indeed pretty proud of) on a shoestring budget.

it may have been just over 3 weeks or renovation work, but there were many more months of research (both online and offline) to put us in a position to create this result on such a small budget.

As they say in the industry, stay tuned! :)

The Mid Wales recording studio will be available for hire for a range of small projects at a very reasonable price. If you are interested in using the facilities, or need a helping hand to get started, feel free to contact us for more information.
