Step 1: Access Settings

First, log into your Squarespace account and head over to 'Settings'. This is where you'll find all the site-wide settings, including domains.

Step 2: Choose Domains

Once in settings, look for 'Domains' and click on it. This will take you to the page where you can view and manage all the domain names connected to your website.

Step 3: Find Your Built-in Domain Name

Among all the domains listed, locate the built-in domain name. This is the domain that ends with ".squarespace.com", and it's the one you're interested in changing.

Step 4: Change the Domain Name

Click on your built-in domain name to edit it. You'll see an option to enter a new domain name. Go ahead and type in your new desired domain name. In our example, we're renaming a PixelHaze template domain.

Step 5: Confirm the New Domain Name

After you've entered the new domain name, click on 'Rename'. A confirmation prompt will appear. Hit 'Confirm' to finalize the change.

Step 6: Verify the Change

The development domain name should change at this point. Ensure that the new domain name is now appearing before ".squarespace.com".

Note: If you have sent an email invite to a new contributor before making the domain name change, it would be wise to resend the invitation post-change. This ensures that the invitee has the updated link to access the website.
